Designed for crushing fresh oats and other items, the CAMPO is a beautifully made
hand flaker utilising two parallel, counter-rotating, roller
bearing mounted 43mm stainless steel or basalt stone rollers,
producing the same rolled grain output as the electric flaker
in the Schnitzer VARIO.
98% of customers purchase the Stainless Steel roller version (SS), as this allows the gentle pressing of oily seeds (linseeds etc), spices, coarse salt, damp grains (sprouted) and hard grains, as well as the Oat Kernels for freshly rolled oats. The slow gentle pressing with stainless is not like vigorous grinding for flours, and considered gentle enough to not adversely effect the nutrient value of the output.
The stone version (ST) using the
same natural Naxos Basalt in magnesite as the Schnitzer
Country hand mill, is designed to press dry Oat Kernels
(groats) ONLY - note that the natural stones are not suitable for damp grains or oily seeds etc.
Turning the side adjustment knobs in makes flat-pressed flakes
and adjusting outward slightly rolls the grain. The timber frame
is lightly oiled solid beech wood with 5 rubber feet and a strong
table mounting clamp for excellent stability.
Turning is easy with the ergonomically designed handle, featuring
a timber end-handle that spins on the arm.
The rollers are adjusted to a gap of between ~ 0.3-1.5mm and easily cleaned.
